Samantha Brown, a travel expert and host of PBS’s two-time Emmy Award-winning series, “Samantha Brown’s Places to Love,” will mark her 25th anniversary as a TV personality and pioneer in travel next month. Known for her storytelling, boundless curiosity and unique ability to connect with audiences, Samantha has sparked wanderlust in millions by celebrating the people and places that make each destination unforgettable. From her early days on Travel Channel in 2000 to becoming the executive producer and host of her current PBS hit series “Samantha Brown’s Places to Love,” which premieres its eighth season rolling out on Jan/ 3, 2025, sponsored by AmaWaterways, Oceania Cruises and Road Scholar, Samantha’s work has transcended the screen, bringing a human touch to travel by showcasing destinations through the people who make them extraordinary. Since her debut, Samantha has been at the helm of 14 TV series, filmed over 338 episodes and traveled more than 2.5 million miles across 65 countries. More than just a travel expert, Samantha has been a trusted guide and friend to viewers over the years, helping her audience choose their next destinations by revealing the people and stories behind the places she loves to visit. As she celebrates this major milestone, Samantha remains dedicated to connecting viewers to the heart and soul of travel. “Celebrating 25 years in travel is a chance to reflect on the moments that matter most,” said Brown. “It’s not the exclamation points of travel that stick with us but the quiet commas—the unexpected discoveries and human connections that shape our favorite memories." To commemorate her anniversary, “Places to Love” will feature a “25th Anniversary Special” episode that rolls out nationwide starting on Jan. 17 (check local listings) reflecting on her career journey. From landing her first audition with Travel Channel’s “Great Vacation Homes,”  to the origin story of “Places to Love” and revisiting some of her favorite destinations across the globe, this heartfelt episode reflects on those milestones, lessons, and unforgettable moments that have shaped Samantha into the beloved travel host she is today. "I’m beyond excited to share the new season of “Places to Love” with our viewers,” said Samantha. “From the vibrant streets of New Orleans to the historic charm of Germany’s wine region, this season is all about discovering the hidden gems, local cultures and authentic experiences that make each destination so special as well as a moment to revisit a few of my favorite destinations from years past. I can't wait for everyone to join me on this unforgettable adventure for many more years to come." In addition to this special, the Season 8 premiere takes Samantha to Northern Costa Rica, where she explores the region's natural beauty and all the rich biodiversity that the eco-friendly country has to offer. She begins her journey at Mistico Park, where she crosses hanging bridges surrounded by lush rainforests and encounters vibrant wildlife. Nearby at Vida Campesina, she learns about sustainable farming practices on an organic farm that doubles as a learning center and kitchen. Her adventure continues at the Organization for Tropical Studies, where she meets scientists working to preserve the world’s rainforests. Samantha caps off her visit with a thrilling whitewater tubing adventure on the stunning Rio Celeste. During Season 8, viewers will also join Samantha on journeys to: New Orleans, La.: “Nothing in the French Quarter” was the mission this time to NOLA and Samantha begins her trip enjoying chicory coffee and beignets in a hidden gem location in City Park, followed by the must-see National World War II Museum. During her visit she cycles the Tammany Trace, meets artist Marianne Rodriguez in Covington, and wraps up her trip with a po’ boy sandwich and hot jazz at the legendary Dew Drop Inn. Berlin, Leipzig and Meissen, Germany:   Leipzig is a city few Americans travel to, and Samantha will show them why they should add it to their list. While there Samantha revels in the music of one of history’s greatest composers, Bach, at St. Thomas Church followed by a tour of Meissen, Europe’s first porcelain producer. In Berlin, she explores iconic landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate, experiences Berlin’s vibrant art scene, as well as a small museum telling an unknown story of the Holocaust.  The Crystal Coast of North Carolina:  Samantha explores a sparkling coast that sometimes plays second fiddle to North Carolina’s famous mountains. She visits Shackleford Banks’ wild horses, Beaufort’s boat-building traditions and samples oysters on Harkers Island. She enjoys stargazing at the Cape Lookout National Seashore and wraps up her journey with a seafood dinner on the Oceanana Pier. Traverse City, Mich.: This is quite possibly the coolest small city in the United States. Samantha kicks off the trip with a hike of Sleeping Bear Dunes, explores local food and wine at Leelanau Cheese and Bonobo Winery, and sails Lake Michigan aboard the schooner Wind Dancer. She also visits The Village at Grand Traverse Commons, a former state hospital turned bustling community hub. Mainz, Wiesbaden and Rothenburg, Germany: During a roadtrip that’s big on Germany’s most romantic destinations, Samantha explores Mainz’s Roman ruins and wine bars, samples hot chocolate in Wiesbaden, and visits its Art Nouveau Museum. In Rothenburg, she experiences medieval charm and shops for authentic German Christmas decorations at Kathe Wohlfahrt’s world-renowned store. The Black Hills of South Dakota: During an iconic itinerary every American wants to participate in, Samantha encounters bison at Custer State Park, drives Needles Highway, and explores the Badlands. She visits Wall Drug, learns about the Crazy Horse Memorial, and ends her trip with campfire cooking and camaraderie in a serene mountain meadow. Route 66-Missouri to Oklahoma: During a road trip everyone dreams of going on, Samantha picks up where she left off in Illinois and begins this trip at the St. Louis Arch. As she travels west she enjoys frozen custard and explores Springfield, Mo.. She visits Uranus Fudge Factory, learns history in Tulsa, and ends her journey at Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curious, celebrating Route 66 nostalgia. Route 66-Oklahoma to Texas: Samantha explores the Threatt Filling Station and Oklahoma’s First Americans Museum. In Amarillo, she visits the Cadillac Ranch and the Devil’s Rope Museum. She stops in Adrian, Texas, the halfway point of Route 66, and discovers an unpaved stretch of the historic road.
