Disney Cruise Line (DCL) had its date with Disney Destiny on Monday night, Nov. 10, introducing the newest vessel in its fleet with a christening ceremony at its homeport of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. Disney Destiny is the seventh ship in Disney’s fleet and the sister ship to Disney Treasure and Disney Wish in the Wish class. DCL is set to launch six more ships by 2031. DCL officials celebrated Destiny’s debut with its signature theatrics, including drone special effects, scenic projections on the ship itself, and a live band performing popular songs across Disney Animation, Pixar Animation Studios, and Marvel properties. The waterfront performance included tunes from films such as “Hercules,” “The Lion King” and “Black Panther” while drones illuminated the sky with various characters and displays. “For more than 100 years, we have entertained our fans in new and innovative ways, connecting them to the Disney stories they love,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences. “Disney Cruise Line is a powerful part of that legacy because our ships become brand ambassadors that travel the globe and bring joy to our guests in ways only Disney can. Now, the Disney Destiny makes its own extraordinary entry into our growing fleet.” The evening culminated in a pop of champagne and the ceremonial christening blessing bestowed by Susan Egan, godmother of the Disney Destiny. The prolific Broadway performer voiced Megara in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Hercules” and originated the role of Belle in “Beauty and the Beast” on Broadway. Following Egan’s remarks, Disney Destiny pushed off from Port Everglades and kicked off its preview cruise to The Bahamas. Disney Destiny is anchored by a theme of heroes and villains, which informed design elements and features throughout the brand-new vessel. The grand hall boasts a statue of Black Panther and welcomes a rotating set of Disney’s most popular heroes and villains. Venues throughout the ship embrace the good versus evil concept, such as The Sanctum, a Doctor Strange-themed lounge and The Haunted Mansion parlor. Disney Destiny ushers in the first-ever onboard dining experience inspired by “The Lion King” and an original Broadway-style adaptation of “Hercules.” Additional highlights include a Mickey Mouse-themed water attraction and a lounge inspired by Cruella de Vil from “101 Dalmatians.” “The Disney Cruise Line team, alongside our Disney Imagineers, have invested years of their expertise, creativity and dedication into this beautiful ship,” said Joe Schott, president of Disney Signature Experiences. “They have created something truly spectacular.” Disney Destiny will set sail on its maiden voyage on Nov. 20, followed by an inaugural season of four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas and the Western Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale. DCL is embarking on a multi-year expansion plan that will bring its signature cruise experience to new audiences around the world. Disney Adventure will homeport in Singapore starting in March 2026 and a fourth ship in the Wish class is expected in 2027. The fleet is expected to reach 13 ships by 2031.
