Signature Living opened its doors to customers for the first time on 23 August, 2008. Over the months that followed we faced up to adjusting to the accommodation market in the middle of Liverpool’s city life without too many guests – to say that these were worrying times would be an understatement. Katie’s background was in Human Resources and while I was involved with running retail stores and importing clothing. You couldn’t get any less connected to the hotel industry than we were, but what we did have was a belief that there was a gap in the market. Our belief was strong in our vision but certainly lacking in knowledge – however, we both believed passionately in the project. We knew that there was a gap in the market and thankfully, after a difficult first six months, Signature Living has flourished. Obviously, we have been aided by the amazing resurgence of Liverpool as a city. In my view, it’s number one shopping destination in the North West. Couple that with its rich heritage, the Capital of Culture award in 2008, the night life and our architecture – Liverpool is a great place to be.
